EPP Midyear Conference

 

The Heathman Hotel in downtown Portland was  the site of the ACR Environment and Public Policy midyear conference: “2004 Leadership Forum: Challenges and Strategies for Environmental and Public Policy Conflict Resolvers.”

 

The conference, held in partnership with the US Institute for Environmental Conflict Resolution (USIECR), the Oregon Mediation Association, the Policy Consensus Initiative and others, was a huge success, and the largest conference ever for the EPP Section. See below for program offerings.

Conflict Assessment Workshop

Assessments: Beyond our Online Dialogue

Session attendess looked at the practice of conducting diagnostic consultations, conflict assessments, and situation assessments, and the use of both formal and informal assessment reports, convening reports, issue maps, and the like. participants:

  • Reviewed themes drawn from the extensive Online Assessment Dialogue conducted in 2003;
  • Discussed, critiqued and synthesized these themes in a spirited and interactive setting;
  • Identified and discussed other important practice challenges associated with conducting assessments;
  • Began creating an analytical framework to use when considering and designing assessments: the different kinds of assessments, when each is appropriate, and tools and practices that enhance effectiveness.

An Afternoon Introduction And Orientation To Environmental And Public Policy Conflict Resolution

Hosted by EPP Section Leadership and the Welcoming Committee, this was

a series of presentations and discussions showcasing the field, the Section and our work. Experienced mediators and facilitators from private, not for profit, academic and government programs were featured, as well as an update on Section acitivities such as the Diversity Mentoring Project, the Communications Committee, the Annual ACR Conference in Sacramento and updates from USIECR, OMA, and SRA International on current activities and insights from colleagues with a variety of perpectives.  =============================================================

Attendees enjoyed a road trip and professional networking opportunity while exploring the majestic Columbia River Gorge with ACR and OMA colleagues as guides. The four-hour tour of the Columbia River Gorge and its waterfalls and vista points offered time to relax and catch up with friends and colleagues in a beautiful setting.
