Dr. Cope was appointed executive director of the Center for Conflict Resolution at Abilene Christian University in August 2000. Previously, he had served for two years as the executive director of The ACU Foundation and, prior to that, for seven years as the executive assistant to the president of Abilene Christian University.
In 2006, Dr. Cope was appointed chair and associate professor of the newly created Department of Conflict Resolution.
A practicing Texas attorney, Dr. Cope oversees the daily operation of the Center. He directed the establishment and curriculum development for ACU's new Master of Arts in Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation. Currently he serves as program director for the masters degree and graduate certificate programs, directs individual practicum projects, and is the course director for the semi-annual Residency Session for the conflict resolution programs. Dr. Cope travels extensively as a trainer and mediation practitioner.
Dr. Cope received his law degree from the Texas Tech University School of Law in 1986 and his certificate in dispute resolution from the Pepperdine University School of Law in 2002. A member of the Association of Conflict Resolution, the American Bar Association Section of Dispute Resolution, and the Texas Association of Mediators, he is a credentialed mediator of the Texas Mediators Credentialing Associating, co-convener of the Texas Mediation Trainers Roundtable, and a Council member of the State Bar of Texas Section of Alternative Dispute Resolution. Dr. Cope has been a visiting professor at the University of Arkansas - Little Rock and the Straus Institute of Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine University School of Law.
