Katie Kolon

I first took a 20-hr mediation skills training in 2006 while attending law school and getting my MA in International Relations. I became an employment law attorney in 2006 and litigated cases regarding unemployment benefits, unpaid wages, discrimination, racketeering, trafficking, and farmworker law. I took the Center for Conflict Resolution’s (CCR) 40-hr mediation skills training in 2011 and was accepted into the Mediation Mentorship Program (MMP) in 2012. Through the three-month training and mentorship program, I honed my skills and became a Certified Mediator with CCR in 2012. I have been a volunteer mediator for CCR ever since, participating in the volunteer council, the MMP selection committee, reflective practice group, and peer review.

In 2014 I became a Certified Mediation Coach for CCR and I regularly coach students as they practice mediating as part of the 40-hr mediation skills training.

For the past 12 years, I have attended continuing education and taken additional training from CCR to prepare me for more specialized mediation such as child-focused mediation, community police mediation, and adapted court model mediations, including early dispute resolution. I have mediated cases including Juvenile Misdemeanors, Juvenile/Family Reconciliation, Attorney/Client Fee Disputes, Landlord/Tenant Eviction, Small Claims, Stalking/No-Contact, Post-Decree Parenting Agreements, and Community/Police Mediation.

I founded Mutual Ground Mediation, LLC in 2024 and hope to bring more awareness to mediation and its many benefits.

Approach

I provide mediation, coaching, and consulting for businesses and individuals to manage workplace conflict, avoid litigation, and foster healthy environments where employees thrive and businesses succeed. I aim to create a private and brave space where I can facilitate conversation and guide parties to discover their own solutions to conflict. I hope through mediation, I not only assist in the resolution of immediate conflict, but also find value in our mutual connection.
