John Gaffney is a Senior Counsel in the Abu Dhabi office of Al Tamimi & Company, where he leads the Abu Dhabi arbitration team. John has worked in the arbitration practices of international firms in London and Paris, served as a legal officer with the United Nations Compensation Commission (UNCC) in Geneva, and was a Partner with a top-tier commercial law firm in Ireland. John has advised on matters seated around the world under a variety of rules, including the ICC, UNCITRAL, LCIA, DIFC-LCIA, DIAC, and ADCCAC rules, as well as ad hoc proceedings. John is also a Member of the ICC Commission for Arbitration and ADR; on the Sounding Board of the Business and Human Rights Arbitration Project Editorial Board; a Sustaining Member of the European Law Institute and a Country Reporter for the UAE for the Institute of Transnational Arbitration. John has published extensively and spoken widely on international dispute resolution, including contributions to a number of leading textbooks. He teaches a course on international commercial arbitration as part of a Master’s Program at the Sorbonne University in Abu Dhabi.
