John H. Fitzhugh

John H. Fitzhugh (known to most as "Josh") is a lawyer with a strong background in journalism and public affairs who has practiced law in Vermont since 1981. He was born in 1948 in Greenwich, CT and currently resides in Berlin, VT, about seven miles south of the state's capital city. He is a graduate of Deerfield Academy (1966), Dartmouth College (1970), and Brooklyn Law School (1976). He attended law school at night while he worked full-time as a financial reporter for the Associated Press in New York City.
Since graduating from college, Mr. Fitzhugh has served as editor of a weekly community newspaper; a business reporter; the founding editor of the National Law Journal, a weekly newspaper for lawyers; an administrative hearing officer; a partner in one of Vermont's larger law firms; counsel to two governors of the State of Vermont; and in solo law practice. Mr. Fitzhugh is currently general counsel and vice president in charge of the claims department at Union Mutual Fire Insurance Company in Montpelier, VT. Union is a $60 million a year (premiums) property casualty company which writes in New England states.
