I am an accredited family mediator with 15 years plus experience in Ontario and Newfoundland. As a former educator, my special interest is Child Inclusive Mediation and Voice of Child Reports. I also qualified to practice Openness Adoption and Child Protection Mediation. Last Summer, I also finished the Family Group Conferencing Course, and the New Ways for Life Instructors course. For many years now, I have actively practised and used the materials from the “New Ways for Families Course.”
Memberships
I am still an active professional musician playing my clarinet daily to stay in tip-top shape. For many years, I led a traditional 16-piece Big Band. (Talk about needing mediation skills lol) However, most of my career, played classical music, including performing with the London Promenade Orchestra and the Windsor Symphony. Although I started teaching music in the Netherlands, I managed to add another 30 years of teaching in Ontario. Actually it was my teaching career, especially the Guidance and Counselling part that led me into the many mediation courses afterwards.
I have been in private practice since 2007. I also worked for the courts in Toronto and Hamilton and currently for the Courts in Peterborough, Lindsay and Cobourg. The highlight of my career in mediation was the five years I worked for the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador. I returned to Ontario to attempt a partial retirement and to have more time with my spouse, the children and grandchildren.
I look for the common interest of my clients, the law and first and foremost the “Best Interest of the Children.” I love the proposal – counterproposal approach if at all possible.
I have both a Clarinet Pedagogy and a performance degree in Clarinet and also a Master of Music Education and a Bachelor of Education.
In Mediation I have the Advanced Certificate in Peace Studies from Waterloo University, My Qualified Mediator, my Accredited Family Mediator, my Child Protection Mediator designations and the Family Group Conferencing Course and New Ways for Families and for Life courses. in April 2021 I also qualified for the Danger Assessment Certification.
My fees are normally $150.- per hour. However, I will mediate for less when I have clients of lesser means.
