Dan is the Immediate Past Chair of the Minnesota State Bar Association’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Section. He also serves on the Minnesota Supreme Court’s ADR Ethics Board (which is responsible for upholding the ethical standards of ADR providers). He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Institute for the Study of Conflict Transformation. He has trained mediators throughout the country for the ISCT, the U.S. Postal Service, and as an Adjunct Professor at the Hofstra University School of Law.
Dan helps with any conflict, regardless of the topic. He is especially skilled at handling highly emotional situations. He is licensed to practice law and has a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology. He has also been designated by the ISCT as a “Certified Transformative Mediator”. Besides creating and directing Simon Mediation, Dan has directed the Jewish Family and Childrens Service Divorce Mediation Program, and is a founding member of the Transformative Mediators of Minnesota. He holds an M.A. in Counseling Psychology and a Law Degree (J.D.), cum laude, from the University of Minnesota. Before he became a full-time mediator in 1998, Dan was a business litigation attorney and a family business consultant.
Dan has mediated over 1000 divorce or parenting cases since 1996. He has also worked on over 500 employment disputes, family business cases, real estate disputes, and construction cases. Dan is a leader in the field of transformative mediation, has written about it, and has conducted trainings in it nationwide for the US Postal Service, the Institute for the Study of Conflict Transformation, and as an Adjunct Professor at the Hofstra University School of Law.
