He has been highly effective in resolving complex disputes, managing matters where emotions run high, and training individuals and groups to help them navigate the intersection of logic and emotion.

Sam’s legal background includes plaintiff and defense work, management and labor, along with litigation and appeals. He was formerly Assistant Corporate Counsel with Nike, he has served as a Judge Pro Tem, and he served as Chair of the Oregon State Bar Alternative Dispute Resolution Section. He was on the Oregon State Bar (OSB) Ethics Committee, was Chair of the OSB Multnomah Local Professional Responsibility Committee, and serves on Oregon Mediation Association’s Standards and Practices Committee.

Experience in everything from “Admiralty to Zoning,” both preventing and resolving conflict. Highly effective in resolving complex, high-conflict cases, mediating multi-party disputes, and facilitating cross-sector partnerships. Value-added proposition: the ability to analyze voluminous information, quickly synthesize it, present it clearly, and facilitate/mediate diverse groups of sophisticated and passionate stakeholders toward resolution. Sam has a tireless work ethic and “gets the job done” with uncompromising integrity and impartiality. He believes in straight talk to uncover hidden agendas and speaks truth to power in a way that can be heard and acted upon. Sam trains nationally on dispute resolution topics and is an engaging keynote speaker. He has worked with the full spectrum of individuals from every walk of life and title, non-profits, corporations, Fortune 500 companies, trade associations, educational institutions, court systems, neighborhood groups, hospitals, small businesses, elected officials, and government entities. During his free time, Sam plays “zone defense” against his three granddaughters and midfield on an Over-65 men’s soccer team, where occasionally you can perceive movement on the field!
