Shawn Storey was born in Texas and grew up in the western part of the state near his family’s ranch. After graduating with a double major in psychology and political science he worked for the mental health department in several counties in Texas and as a probation officer and licensed addiction counselor before going to law school in 1995 and starting his legal practice in 1998. Since then he has been a prosecutor, attended George Washington University as a masters in political management major, worked on several campaigns and in the US House of Representatives for Ralph Hall. He has always been interested in the world and enjoys meeting people from around the globe. Please see “clients” on the webpage. Expanding to New York City in 2019 was a continuation of Shawn’s interests and desire to use his talents and experience to help people of various backgrounds reach peaceful and mutually beneficial settlements to their conflicts.
Mr. Storey has been involved in mediations for over 20 years and is a former case manager for the American Arbitration Association (AAA). He has completed training for mediation with the New York State Unified Court System, including specialized training in family issues, and continues to train with the New York Center for Interpersonal Development.
Shawn primarily uses the understanding based model for mediation. However, as needed, or upon request from the parties, caucusing is also available. In all cases the focus is on the parties and on providing them with an environment that allows them to express themselves. The goal is reaching a mutually beneficial outcome.
