Jack Arbuthnot

Jack Arbuthnot, Ph.D. is a professor emeritus of psychology at Ohio University, Dr. Arbuthnot specializes in developmental-social psychology, with a particular interest in the effects of divorce and parenting plan arrangements on child development. He has spent over thirty years developing and refining intervention techniques and training materials for programs to facilitate children’s cognitive development and problem-solving abilities, particularly as they adapt to divorcing families, and in the development of socio-moral reasoning. Many of these techniques are spelled out in his book, Teaching Moral Reasoning: Theory and Practice, and in several professional journal articles and book chapters. Dr. Arbuthnot consults extensively with schools, social service agencies, and courts, and has presented numerous workshops and seminars in the U.S., Canada, and abroad.
