Monique Carels is a lecturer in the Department of Commercial Law, Faculty of Law at the University of Cape Town (UCT). She teaches various subjects to final-year law students (undergraduate) and Master’s students (postgraduate). Her area of specialization and expertise is Dispute Resolution, specifically Negotiation and Mediation.
Monique completed her LLB in 2012 from the University of the Western Cape (UWC). She completed her first LLM in Dispute Resolution in 2014 from the University of Missouri, U.S., and her second LLM in Labor Law in 2015 from UWC. Currently, she is registered for her PhD at UCT, where her dissertation focuses on the impact of family mediation in South Africa.
Monique has received commercial and family mediation training and has extensive experience mediating with families and children. She is also an EXCO member of the Social Justice Foundation NPO.
