Richard J. Rosenthal, CRE,CRB,GRI is the CEO of THE ROSENTHAL GROUP (TRG). The firm, founded in 1975, specializes in Dispute Resolution Services, Technical Real Estate Education, and the provision of Litigation Consulting and Support Services to the Trial Bar, Business Community and Public Sector Entities. Rosenthal, an investment broker and sought after litigation consultant, is qualified as an expert in both state and federal courts, and has completed over 750 litigation assignments in the areas of 'custom and practice' and 'standards of care' in the real estate brokerage, management and mortgage finance fields. He is a published author on real estate practice and has authored a definitive treatise on 'Performance Analysis in Broker Liability Litigation' (published in the Professional Journal of the American Society of Real Estate Counselors).
Rosenthal has completed Mediator skills training under the auspices of the California and National Associations of Realtors, as well as TRG's internal training program (conducted by Pepperdine Law School's Dispute Resolution faculty). He has completed Pepperdine's 48hour course in 'Mediating the Litigated Case' as well as many of the Dispute Resolution Certificate Program courses at Pepperdine University's School of Law. He has been appointed to a three year term as a State Mediator and Inter-Board Arbitrator by the California Association of Realtors. He is a presiding officer for the BH/GLAAR Arbitration panel and Chair of their Professional Standards Committee. He has been appointed to the Los Angeles Superior Court Mediation Panel; to the National Association of Securities Dealers’ Arbitration and Mediation Panels; and has been elected to the DRS, Inc. [LA County Bar Association], Board of Directors and their Attorney/Client Fee Dispute Panels.
Rosenthal is currently a member of the Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR), the Southern California Mediation Association, and the Alternative Dispute Resolution sections of the Los Angeles County Bar Association (LACBA) and American Bar Association (ABA). TRG is also a supporting member of the National Institute for Dispute Resolution (NIDR).
Rosenthal was 1986 President of the California Association of REALTORS, the nation's largest state trade association with more than 140,000 members. He has served as a C.A.R. Director from 1978 to present, and as a Director of the National Association of REALTORS for almost two decades.
Rosenthal has held various civic and business leadership roles, most notably as Chairman of the Executive Advisory Board of California State University's Real Estate and Land Use Institute, and, Chairman of the Los Angeles County Commission on Local Government Services. He also served two year terms on both the Federal National Mortgage Association National Advisory Council and its Western Region Advisory Council and was a member of the California Senate Housing Task Force and the California Real Estate Commission.
A graduate in Business Administration from Hofstra University in New York, Rosenthal has held numerous teaching assignments as a member of the C.A.R. Faculty. He is rated as a Master Instructor and has been approved by the California Department of Real Estate and the Hawaii Real Estate Commission to teach continuing education course work. In addition, he was an Adjunct Professor of Real Estate at California State University, Sacramento.
Rosenthal has earned the Certified Brokerage Manager (CRB) designation from the REALTORS National Marketing Institute, is a graduate of the REALTORS Institute (GRI), was invited into membership of Lambda Alpha International (Honorary Land Economics Society), and has been designated as a Counselor of Real Estate (CRE) by the prestigious American Society of Real Estate Counselors.
