Steve McGuire is a native of Louisville and a graduate of the University of Kentucky. He had a 30 year career in the federal government serving as an attorney and federal judge in Washington, DC. He retired in 2008 as Chief Judge of the Federal Trade Commission where he presided over antitrust and consumer protection cases. In addition, he served as an administrative law judge with the Social Security Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and adjudicated cases for the U.S. Treasury Department and the U.S. Patent Office. During this time he served as an alternative disputes resolution (ADR) neutral in over 200 federal enforcement cases and adjudicated numerous employee grievances and EEO complaints.
