The Will Work For Food programs are educational webinars that are presented primarily by and for attorneys, mediators and arbitrators. Each Thursday, at 8am Pacific, an amazing colleague joins us to give a webinar presentation about a timely topic. Please join us!
Conflict is not fully resolved unless there is forgiveness. At its core, forgiveness involves the healing of hurt and anger while releasing animosity between the parties involved. Unfortunately, many mediations end without addressing the underlying issues fueling the dispute and rely on partial solutions and monetary settlements instead. When parties harbor a desire for revenge, it further complicates matters and can perpetuate conflict, even when a settlement has been reached.
This session will explore how mediators can reset the table. Learn strategies to guide parties toward genuine healing and resolution, fostering an environment where repair can occur. By prioritizing emotional closure, mediators can turn disputes into meaningful opportunities for growth and understanding.
Eileen Barker is an accomplished mediator and a pioneer in integrating forgiveness and healing into conflict resolution. A former litigator, she has dedicated over 30 years to mediation, exploring forgiveness as a tool for resolving conflict and fostering peace.
For nearly 20 years, Eileen has taught and coached forgiveness internationally, training mediators, lawyers, and judges through the Forgiveness Training Institute. In 2016, she received the Champion of Forgiveness Award from the Worldwide Forgiveness Alliance alongside Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Previously, Eileen worked as a trial attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice and as a commercial litigator. She has taught at UC Berkeley Law, UC San Francisco Law, Creighton University, and elsewhere.
