JAMS ADR Blog by Chris Poole
On January 23, 2020, amidst the beautiful backdrop of the Pacific Ocean in Malibu, Calif., Pepperdine University Caruso School of Law’s Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution presented JAMS neutral Hon. Daniel Weinstein (Ret.) with its highest honor: the Peacemaker Award. In front of the many students, alumni, faculty, alternative dispute resolution (ADR) professionals, distinguished judges and policymakers in attendance, Judge Danny (as he prefers to be addressed) received this honor and took part in an inspiring conversation that highlighted his commitment to creating peace, resolving conflict and empowering others to do incredible things.
The Peacemaker Award recognizes the multiple contributions Judge Danny has made to the ADR field, including his establishing the Weinstein International Foundation and co-founding the Weinstein JAMS International Fellowship Program in partnership with the JAMS Foundation. Both organizations advance mediation globally through mentoring and hands-on practice to address real-world challenges.
As one of the founding members of JAMS, Judge Danny has had a major impact on the growth and increased acceptance of ADR through the years and is proud of how much he has accomplished. Before the conclusion of the evening, Judge Danny remarked that he and others like him are “just getting started.”
